Design Proposal for a Welcome Center Museum

Design Proposal for the
Osceola County Welcome Center and History Museum

This proposal sought to address the client's need to add interactive media upgrades to their existing facility, a popular destination in central Florida. The proposed changes fit a variety of budgetary constraints and could be rolled out incrementally over time as needed. The solutions recommended in the above video were based on three instructional design principles:

Accessibility
Current exhibits show a strong dependence on printed English to explain to visitors the significance of each display. Content should engage visitors who do not speak English, are hearing impaired or sight impaired, or who are pre-readers that require age-appropriate learning materials.

Engagement
Engaging instructional content is often shared conversationally and includes both visual and textual elements without overloading the cognitive processing capacity of the learner.

Interactivity
The museum is filled with static placards and dioramas. Learners tire quickly and lose interest when not give a measure of control over the format, flow, and pace of information. Greater engagement comes from opportunities to delve further into areas of interest.
